Does the title throw you off? Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to call this post, but it did sort of seem accurate. Here’s the deal, I am going to be working on me. That’s the bottom line anyway. That’s not to say that I haven’t been working on me all this time, but I have decided that I need to step back a bit and again concentrate on the basics again.
The basics consists of doing a lot of the things I did to lose weight in the first place. I want to not only tone up, but drop at least 5 or 8lbs. It’s not a lot of weight, but the littlest amount can be the toughest. I want to get back to the weight that I was about a year ago before I started training for my marathon in June. I weighed about 8lbs less then and I’d love to see that number on the scale again. Mind you, I understand that some of what I gained during marathon training may be muscle, but I think dropping at least 5lbs is reasonable and can be done. My clothes are still fitting, but I am not as happy in them as I have been.
So, I’ve started some this week by dropping the easy, but not so-good-for-you Tofurky sandwiches for lunch. While the stuff is definitely not bad tasting, it’s full of preservatives and it’s really just a lazy way for me to get out of making something for lunch. I made Happy Herbivore’s eggless egg salad this week instead and it’s great. I’m also being more conscious about my H2O intake. It’s not as high as it used to be and that needs to change. That starts by making sure I’m filling up my water bottle multiple times each day.
I’m also seeking a good calorie-counting/weight loss app for my android phone. I may go with MyFitnessPal, but I’m looking at other options. While I haven’t really been overeating, I think an extra 100-calories or so have snuck in lately each day and I need to keep an eye on that.
I know exactly what I need to do with my eating and fitness, so just getting more serious with it is what I’m going to be doing. It’s good to keep yourself in check I think so that 5lbs doesn’t end up being 20lbs before you know it.
My workouts will be ramped back up again. I’ve gotten too lax on my cross-training and strength training, so those are going to be a priority again. I run 3 days a week and want to get my two other days of other exercise back on the schedule whether it be a bike ride or a fitness DVD.
Do you use a weight loss app? Any recs? What do you do to reel yourself back in when you need to again drop a few pounds? Would love to hear thoughts!
