The ABCs of This Girl’s Got Sole

Hey everyone! Welcome to all the Grow Your Blog Hoppers who will be stopping by today! This is my day to be in the “spotlight” blog-wise with this fun group of fellow Sweat Pinkers! I loved how Kristen of Run Away with Me did her post on Monday, so I’m also going with the ABC method since it was a lot of fun to read. Specifically a bit about me through the letters of the alphabet. πŸ™‚

A is for animal lover. I love animals of all kinds. Cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, goats, cows, you name it and I love the animal.

B is for biking. It’s my second favorite workout for cardio. I have a great bike, but have a tendency to head to the gym these days and get on a stationary bike. Definitely need to get back on the road.

C is for cookies. They are my favorite snack treat. I’ve become a big fan of The Complete Cookie lately which also has about 10 grams of protein in it. There’s nothing like a good cookie!

After finishing the DONNA in 2014.

After finishing the DONNA in 2014.

D is for Donna. My favorite race every year is the 26.2 with Donna in Jacksonville. I ran the marathon in 2013 as my first 26.2, and the race has had a special place in my heart ever since. The race’s mission is to finish breast cancer.

E is for extrovert. I’m an outspoken person, and love making friends wherever I go. I have no trouble just striking up conversations with anyone.

F is for Florida. I’ve lived in Florida since I was very young. I currently live in the Orlando area and love it. So much going on in Central Florida.

God's girl who knows that Jesus is truly my running coach. :)

G is for God’s girl. God is first and foremost in my life. It’s a day to day trial to keep Him at that top spot, but I know that it’s because of Him that I’ve been so blessed in life.

H is for headbands. I exclusively wear Bondi Band headbands when I run. I’ve been fortunate enough to be an Ambassador with them and have been wearing them for over four years.

I is for Indybird. Indy is my sweet lovebird who is about 9 years old. I also have an adorable parakeet, Angel who is 10 years old. They are my babies.

J is for Jillian Michaels. She is my favorite fitness trainer. I’ve been a fan of hers since I first saw her on The Biggest Loser. I love her DVDs, podcasts and books.

K is for 10k. My favorite distance to run other than doing half marathons.

L is for The Line. I used to write a self-published crime comic book series entitled The Line. Published three issues of the series, but never finished telling the story.

Mom and I at a race back in 2012.

M is for my family. I’m very close to my family, especially my mom. She is my biggest supporter in all that I do. We are best friends and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

N is for New York. This is where I was born (specifically on Long Island), and where I have a lot of family. Despite living in Florida most of my life, I have an attachment to the Big Apple.

O is for Orlando Galloway. This is the training group I run with three times a week. I began training with them in 2012, and have since become a Group Leader. I’ve made some amazing life-long friendships through the group.

P is for photography. It’s one of my creative passions and outlets. I love being able to express myself through photography. I’ve been taking pictures since I was about 8 or 9. There’s nothing like seeing something through the lens of a camera.

Q is for quotes. I love motivating and inspirational quotes and post them on my instagram feed regularly.

R is for running of course! It’s my favorite sport and way to keep moving. I’ve been running consistently now for about five years and love it. I use the Galloway run/walk/run method due to having an herniated disk in my back. The time walking in between running helps me recover enough that I can keep running.

I don't usually jump around, but when I do, I'm wearing Skirt Sports!

S is for Skirt Sports. 99% of my running outfits consist of Skirt Sports skirts, tops and capris. I fell in love with their skirts in 2011 and have never looked back. I love being a brand ambassador for them and spreading the skirt love!

T is for teriyaki. I love teriyaki stir-fries and other dishes with this flavor.

U is for unwavering. My passion for my fitness, writing and photography are unwavering. I put my best into them.

V is for vegan. I’ve been a vegan for going on six years. I can’t imagine my life any other way. Originally, I became vegetarian for health reasons, but within a month I went vegan because I just couldn’t imagine having any animal products in my food again.

W is for weight loss. In October 2008, I finally decided to change my life. I began my health and fitness journey and lost 80lbs by the next summer. That journey forever changed my life.

X is for X-Files. When the series was on television, I was a big fan. Now that it’s coming back for a limited series in January, my inner geek is beginning to come back out.

Y is for Yankees. I’m not a big sports watching fan, but I do love the NY Yankees.

Z is for zombie. Which is how I’m now feeling since I need some sleep.

  2. Hi Shannon! I love this format and it was a fun read! I love that you mix up your running cardio with biking…sounds very fun! And I also love your headbands…will check them out! I look forward to following your journey!

  3. Running, biking getting along with just about anyone ya your definitely one of my kind of people:) I also love that you wrote a comic series, that is seriously awesome, very cool!!!!
I had no idea X files was coming back, I do remember watching that show when I was younger. Big congrats on your weightlos 80 pounds is no easy thing to do, huge congrats to you on that.
You seem like such a fun goal oriented person who loves life, so fun getting to know others on here. Let’s see something about me.. I collect keychains on all my travels, I have somewhere around 120 give or take a couple hanging on my wall right now:)

  4. Nice to meet you through the hop! I also love biking. I recently got a bike and fell in love with it. Its a great addition to running to give those joints a break from the pounding! Wish it wasnt getting cold though where I live in Ohio πŸ™

  5. Hi, I’m coming from the hop! The half is my favorite distance and I’m fanatic #5867. I’m not as keen on the 10k. I really like the ABC format you used. I’m currently biking due to a foot injury (and pool running). I like my new bike. It was very nice to meet you.

  6. First, I am so jealous that you live in Florida. I joke with my husband that there’s no way God ever intended for me to be a New England girl, I absolutely despise the winters! Haha! I too love to run and have to say that so far 10k’s are my favorite, probably because that’s the farthest I’ve run and where I feel most comfortable. I keep saying I’d like to do a half marathon but I’m just not sure I’ll ever do it! Haha! Biking is definitely a hobby I wish I’d stuck with. I have completed two triathlons so have a really nice bike hanging up in my garage but unfortunately at 17 weeks pregnant I’m no longer allowed to do anything that involves “balance”. I’ve contemplated getting an indoor trainer for the winters but haven’t taken the plunge!

  7. Hi from the hop! Oh, Jillian Michaels…I’ve yelled a few choice words at her DVDs, but they do the trick. Getting and staying fit isn’t painless :).

  8. I love that you put God first, but I think you are crazy for 10k being your favorite race to run–kuddos to you! I love working out, but NOT a runner. IT was fun getting to know you! I have a several vegan recipes on my site, so maybe you can find some inspiration there. Great job sticking to your goals.

  9. Hi (again) from the blog hop! Congrats on the weight loss journey – that’s amazing! And I, too, am a huge X-Files fan! Living in Vancouver, there’s an element of nostalgia about it, although I’ve never seen any of the stars here. Can’t wait for the reboot!! Thanks for sharing all of the neat info about yourself!

  10. Hello from the blog hop. I’m also a group leader for my running group. I qualified as an official Leader through England Athletics in May and since then I’ve been leading the beginners group. It’s so much fun being a group leader, I’m really glad I decided to do it.

  11. It was fun reading the ABCs of Shannon! Hello from Blog Hop πŸ™‚ Were you at BlogFest when Jillian Michaels was one of our speakers? That was pretty cool. She is really is awesome. Wow good for you and your health! 80 pds loss high five right here! ? That’s super cool that your mom supports and runs with you as well. Happy Running and Blogging Shannon!

  12. Love the ABC’s of Shannon! You have an amazing story and been on a great journey, what a testimony to those of us who struggle to realize just how far we’ve been. I too think Jesus is the Ultimate coach, goodness he knows I call on him quite often to help me get through runs! So glad to connect with you from the hop!

  13. Yes, HE is in charge! God really gives us so many blessings. πŸ™‚
Glad to have met you as well. I look forward to following your adventures.

  14. Hi Diane! No, I have yet to get to a BlogFest, but hope to soon. I did get to workout with Jillian at Sweat USA in Miami a couple of years ago which was so cool! Thanks for coming by. πŸ™‚

  15. It is so great to be able to help and give back in that way, isn’t it? I love it when I can help someone get through their first long run or half marathon. So rewarding.

  16. Hi Bradley! Too bad you haven’t run into any XF folks in your area. Must be cool knowing the series was filmed there for the most part. I would love to visit some day. Thanks so much πŸ™‚

  17. Hi Kristen! Ha, well the 10k is a bit easier, I guess because it’s not a half but not a 5k? πŸ™‚
I’ll definitely stop by and check out your recipes!

  18. LOL Rachael. Well, Florida is good and bad. It can get quite humid here and that’s no fun. Ick! I like cooler temps, but not crazy cold.
Definitely go for it and do a half marathon! You will feel so amazing crossing that finish line! They are fun! I have yet to do a tri, but some of my marathoner friends have tried to convince me to do one.

  19. No fun being injured, hope you get back on the road soon. Thankfully, you are able to bike and pool run. I hear pool running is really good for you too. Nice to meet you fellow Half Fanatic. πŸ™‚

  20. Biking definitely is a good choice for us runner folks. I think a lot of runners tend to go for it as their cross-training of choice. Nice to meet you as well.

  21. Love that we have so much in common, Kristy! Thanks for doing the blog hop, I’ve had a lot of fun meeting other bloggers. πŸ™‚
That is neat that you collect keychains! It’s interesting to see what people like to collect. I have a friend who gets magnets from each place she goes to run a race.

  22. Yes, do check out Bondi Bands, Lauren! You can use my discount code on the right of the blog for your order. Thanks for coming by!

  26. I’m a skirt kind of gal too but I am in RunningSkirts.com.

I remember reading about the return of X-files (use to love that show) but, then, thought is was a rumour because I hadn’t heard much about it. You just gave me something to look forward to again. Thanks!

  27. Love your intro, Shannon! I thought D might be for Disney too since I met you at the Cigna Blogger Cookoff at runDisney Marathon Weekend this year πŸ™‚ Happy to see you’re part of the blog hop too!

  28. Hi from the blog hop!
Love the ABCS of girlsgotssole-super cute!

    Brooklyn born NYER here πŸ˜‰
    X-file-YES!!
I think the 10k is my favorite distance too-i am still deciding-lol!
Jillian Michaels!! Yes! LOVE her-even before biggest loser.
    Nice to meet you!

  29. Another fun ABC method from the blog hop!! So much fun reading about you!! I must choose this method next time πŸ™‚ It’s nice to meet you and I hope to make a great connection with you!

  30. Photography is definitely something that you have to keep up with. I know I feel so much more creative when I’m out there with my camera. Writing and photography make me whole…oh, and running too of course!

  31. Yes, it was a fun experience in which I learned a lot. I have found a few folks who love comics in some way are also social runners. Especially with the runDisney events.

  32. Maybe we should do a photo challenge after the holidays for all the photography loving bloggers! Any interest in doing something like that? Maybe we can get it going.

  33. This was amazing! I am also a displaced New Yorker! Haha I was born on Long Island and most of my family (as well as basically ALL of my boyfriends family) lives on the Island πŸ™‚ However, my boyfriend and I both now live in Austin, TX. But we both have an unwavering place in our hearts for NYC. And always will πŸ˜‰

  34. High five for vegans! ? Indy is beautiful! Very cool to know you have your own comic book series. I also like photography but I’ve made my peace with the fact that I’m a mediocre picture taker.
