Who inspires you? There are many people who have inspired me through the years, especially the last few years as I became a runner. While well-known runners like Deena Kastor, Kathrine Switzer, Meb Keflezighi, Dean Karnazes, Joan Benoit, Jeff Galloway and Kara Goucher are inspirational to me and many others, I’m talking about runners like you and me. Fellow runners that you might meet up with for a weekend run, or race. These are some of those people that have inspired and continue to inspire me.
Carlee Padot McClurg. Carlee is someone who is extremely giving and all about making others happy. She is constantly about making a positive difference in the world. Her blog features a quote by Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Carlee is completely out there with her contagious positivity. She has inspired me to re-think things in my own life. I now try to go out and do some sort of random act of kindness whenever possible. If only we all stepped out our front doors each morning with a smile on our faces and kindness in our hearts, the world would be a much better place. You can check out what Carlee is up to on her blog, http://www.carleemcdot.com/
Gelcys Castaneda. Gelcys is someone I LOVE seeing online everyday. She is beyond inspiring for me. I’m blessed to know this amazing individual. In case you don’t know her, Gelcys is known as the Scoliosis runner. She has had five surgeries and still pushes through pain and discomfort day after day because of her scoliosis. Gelcys was also recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia, as well as masses in her brain. This amazing woman is STRONG and does NOT stop. I am inspired and motivated by her strength many times each day. I can barely put into words how much knowing this girl means to me. She is just awesome, period. We share a big connection in that last year we both ran the NYC Marathon, which was a dream I learned we closely shared. She is just a blessing to know and I hope that if you already don’t know her, you head over to her blog, Runner Unleashed.
Dani Holmes-Kirk. Dani is a former overweight chick like me. She has lost 80lbs as I have, but through Weight Watchers. Dani constantly is motivating everyone to keep their head up and do their best. It’s all about hard work and a positive outlook. Weight loss and then maintaining it is a struggle, it’s most definitely not easy. Dani is just like you and me, taking life day by day. Some days you win and don’t eat the cookie, while other days you say, “heck with it, I’m eating the darn cookie!” It’s about not beating yourself up and knowing that we aren’t perfect, we are human. Dani encompasses the mindset and inspiration that I love in a fellow runner. Seeing her workout posts as well as life updates always puts a smile on my face and helps me stay motivated. Visit Dani online at Weight Off My Shoulders.
Now, these are just three ladies I love to follow each day. Of course, there are many other fellow runners I love in this great online community. No matter how strong or motivated you are, be sure you have your support system in place, we all need someone to inspire and motivate us!
Who inspires you? I’d love to hear about them!
