The 2018 Mount Dora Half Marathon will be taking place on December 16th. The race is in it’s 7th year, and also includes a 5k which takes place the day before. The half marathon course is a single loop route and the course remains open until the last runner crosses the finish line (there is a 16 minute per mile time limit – 3:30 finish). This year, the 5k will take place on Saturday morning, which allows runners to do both distances. In previous years, the 5k and half marathon took place on the same day, on a Sunday morning.
The half marathon route has gently rolling hills in the first 6 miles, and heads through historic neighborhoods dating back to the 1900s. Course runs along the shoreline of two lakes within the small town and is lined with lots of old trees, making it nicely scenic. It is an out-and-back course, starting and finishing at Elizabeth Evans Park on South Donnelly Street.
All finishers of both the half marathon and 5k races get a Finisher medal, and participants get a race shirt. A portion of the proceeds from the event help to support the Run 4 a Cause Foundation. The group provides disadvantaged youth with an opportunity to play in local sports programs.
