December 27. Ordinary Joy.
Our most profound joy is often experienced during ordinary moments. What was one of your most joyful ordinary moments this year? (Author: Brené Brown)

Ordinary is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as “of a kind to be expected in the normal order of events: ie: routine, usual.” That said, I’d have to say that ordinary joy for me is a part of almost everyday for me. There is always something that brings some kind of joy to my day of ordinary.

I would say that two years ago, I can tell you that I would have thought there wasn’t much joy in my days. Not only was I job-less at the end of 2008, but I was also in a state of depression. Being let go from your job and having to give up almost everything you owned and move back home can do that to a person I suppose. But, the tides thankfully turned by February of the next year and the sun was beginning to peek through the clouds.

These days, I may not be exactly where I pictured myself to be when the year began, but I am making strides toward my future. Because of that, I experience a bit of joy each day. It may be a friend texting to say “hello” and brighten my day, or it may be that I took on another of life’s many challenges and won…no matter what kind of joy comes my way, I am more than happy to greet it with open arms, even if that joy is “ordinary.”
