Since I ran my virtual Hot Chocolate 15k last weekend, I ran my Cinco de Miler virtual yesterday. I’m really glad I opted to move it out a week, and do Hot Chocolate last weekend, because this weekend was much hotter here in Florida.
I met a friend, and we ran one of our usual 6 mile routes. Even though this is a 5 mile run, I wanted to run at least 6 miles. That’s kind of my Saturday long run base, as I try to keep it between 6 and 8 miles, even when I’m not training for anything.
We headed out just after 6am, and kept a pretty consistent pace. We ended up averaging a 13:42 per mile, which I’m happy with. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any of our local resident peacocks, but they were heard being vocal up in the trees. Too bad, as I love seeing them on runs.
The last half of our run, my friend must have been feeling good, because she was hauling. I joked to her that I was going to call the run, Chasing the Colleen. Ha! It was good though, as she helped keep the pace in a great place considering the heat and humidity.
While running virtual races aren’t like running an actual race, I’m grateful for the opportunity to earn a great medal and shirt. It’s long sleeve, so I likely won’t be wearing it until the end of the year. I really do love the design of the medal and it’s fun being able to be a part of a Cinco de Mayo race. I’d love to run this race, or one like it in the future.
