I rarely deviate from my Brook Adrenaline GTS running shoes, as they have been a favorite of mine over six years. But, when we had the opportunity to review the new Under Armour Hovr Sonic shoes, I raised my hand. I thought, hey these look fun and different!
The Under Armour Hovr Sonic shoes ARE different. The Hovr shoes are made with a technology that provides ‘zero gravity feel’ to maintain energy return that helps eliminate impact step after step. They are a neutral shoe for runners seeking a balance of flexibility and cushioning. The sot knit upper is fast drying and provides a breathable, compression-like fit that delivers lightweight directional strength and comfort.
Since I typically wear a support shoe, I decided to test the shoes out first on a track workout. That morning, when I put the Hovr shoes on, I did notice the indeed have a compression-life fit and feel. I asked for an 8.5, but I realized I should have gone for a size 9. If you usually go up a full size on your regular running shoe, I recommend maintaining that for the Under Armour Hovr shoes.
As I wore the shoes on that first run, they were comfortable and I felt light on my feet. They are probably the lightest shoe I’ve ever worn. I did feel faster that day on the track with my new white UA Hovr shoes on. Did they make me a Kenyan? Not even close, but hey, they felt good on my feet and that was a great thing.
I wore them to the gym a number of times, as well as to the office one day. That compression and light-feel made me feel like I barely had anything on my feet. For someone who has flat feet, these neutral shoes get a thumbs up from me. I can foresee more track workouts being done in the Under Armour Hovr Sonics in the coming weeks. They work best for me on the track I’ve learned.
