Recently, I was fortunate enough to be sent some free snacks from Mediterranean Snacks for review. I already loved the two types of lentil chips I had tried after buying at Whole Foods, but was anxious to check out the companies other offerings. The great folks at Mediterranean sent me a box filled with lentil chips and veggie chip snacks as well as a very nice canvas bag and chip clip.
Mediterranean Snack Food Company was founded in 2005 with a mission to produce great tasting, nutritionally superior snacks. Using the superfood benefits of lentils in combination with whole grains and legumes, they create unique healthy and delicious snacks. They use only the highest quality, non-GMO, and gluten-free ingredients, creating snacks to satisfy even the most health-conscious food enthusiast.
I get asked numerous times when I bring their lentil chips to work for a snack what they are. I love telling people that they are lentil chips, made from beans! At first, I was skeptical just like those inquiring are when they learn this information. But, these chips are delicious! And, they are good for you not to mention low calorie. I know that’s an important point for me, being able to eat healthy, great tasting food that’s not loaded with fat and calories. For example, 22 lentil chips are only 110 calories! I see a lot of chips/snacks where you don’t get more than 8 or 10 chips for that amount of calories, so 22 chips is great.
Lentil Chips: Sea Salt. These chips are light tasting, just like eating a plan potato chip, only these are baked and better for you. This was the first chip I ever tried from Mediterranean and what got me into their snacks. I eat them plain, no topping, but you can definitely top them with hummus, peanut butter, whatever you’d like.
Lentil Chips: Black Pepper. This is definitely my favorite flavor of the lentil chip line. They have such a great salty taste that’s not too much. They are more loaded than the sea salt, but not overpowering (at least not for me). I find myself craving this flavor all the time. Thankfully, I tend to eat a serving at least 5 days a week at work as a snack or accompaniment with my lunch sandwich. You could also put something on top of this chip, but I think it would lose a lot of it’s greatness doing that, so I’d recommend this one just as it is.
Lentil Chips: Rosemary. This was a totally new flavor for me and when I saw it, I was excited to try it out. I wasn’t disappointed, as they are quite good. The rosemary flavor is light, and definitely not overpowering. It would be between the sea salt and the black pepper in my mind for how much of a flavored taste it has. Again, probably best eaten just out of the bag as they come.
Veggie Medley Straws. These are neat shaped veggie snacks similar to veggie chips that people are most familiar with. I enjoyed them as an afternoon snack. My birds love them as well, especially my parents’ African Grey parrot. So, there you go, a healthy, yummy snack recommended by a bird! She loves to soak them in her water and makes sure she eats every bit of it. They are that good. 🙂
Veggie Chips. Unfortunately, this bag came torn open and I was unable to try them. But, they are ridged chips and they looked good. I haven’t seen them in my local Whole Foods as of yet, but when I do, I’ll be picking up a bag.
So, there you have it, Mediterranean Snacks makes great snacks! I am definitely a fan of them and will likely always have a bag in the house. I’d recommend you check them out, if you have yet to. They also make a Cucumber Dill and Parmesan Garlic in the lentil chip line. Not to mention that they have a number of other products like Lentil Crackers and Hummus Crispz.
