I’ve been wearing Brooks running shoes for years now. It quickly became my shoe of choice when I started marathon training. When I began training for my first marathon back in mid-2012, my local running store, Track Shack helped me find the right shoe. Ended up in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, and haven’t looked back since.
While I’ve tried out other brands through the years, including HOKA, Adidas and Mizuno, it was always the Brooks brand that I came back to. So, I’d wear one of the previously mentioned brands for a race, or a few training runs, or race, but not much further than that.
When i had the opportunity to try out the Brooks Ghost 14s as a BibRave Pro, I was excited. I’m definitely attached to my Adrenaline’s, but wanted to try out another shoe under the Brooks brand.
When the box arrived, I opened it and revealed a beautiful hot pink pair of running shoes. I immediately thought it was a great looking shoe. Picking it up, it had a nice feel, and the cushioning seemed impressive.
Took them out on my next weekday 3-miler, and once I walked in them a bit to get adjusted (always seems to be a short period of that for me), they felt good on my feet. I didn’t feel like I was looking much, or any support in the Ghost. I realize the Adrenaline is the brand’s best support shoe, but the Ghost seems to come up as a close second.
I completed the run feeling good. My feet didn’t have any pains, aches, or any issues whatsoever. Definitely a thumbs up in the first impression department!
The following weeks, I added them into my shoe cycle. I’d run one run in the Ghost, the next in the Adrenaline, and so on. The Ghost continued to do well for me. Really enjoyed lacing them up in the morning for a run.
According to the Brooks Running website, “…the Ghost continues to be one of our most-loved shoes. This updated women’s running shoe takes advantage of our advanced cushioning technology, giving you a soft, smooth ride from start to finish.”
Brooks recommends the Ghost for road runners and everyday runs. Features smooth transitions, soft cushioning, and improved fit. As far as the experience level, it’s rated in the middle, which more cushion than a neutral cushioned shoe. It’s rated neutral in it’s support, with a mid sole drop of 12mm and weight of 9oz. In addition, this is Brooks first carbon neutral shoe!
