Tapering isn’t too bad this week. I say that now, 15 days out from the NYC Marathon. I’m sure that will change as the countdown continues. This week, my hunger levels have gotten a bit better (I’m not wanting to eat everything that isn’t nailed down, so progress, right?), and I have gotten in 5 days of workouts. So, I call it a win, pretty-much win for this second week of taper.
However, I have developed a sinus infection. Funny how I haven’t been sick since like February/March and now, just over two weeks from my dream race, it strikes. I have been having headaches every day, teeth pain, and even woke up the other night with horrible facial pain and pressure. Oh marathon taper, you bring on all the fun stuff, don’t you? Thankfully, my doctor called in some antibiotics for me and I’m now taking a big horse-sized pill twice a day. Yay for prescription drugs! Well, if it kicks this sinus crud to the curb, that’s all that matters.
I’ve been listening to as many podcasts about the NYC Marathon as I can. My favorite so far is The Running Lifestyle Show. The recent episode, Top 4 Tips On How to Run the NYC Marathon with guest NYC expert, Runar Gundersen. Runar runs a website, http://runarweb.com/ which is the best resource I’ve been pointed to for the NYC Marathon. The podcast itself is becoming a new favorite of mine. Worth checking out if you like running podcasts.
Between work and working out, I’m trying to plan out my race day outfit. I’m pretty much settled on it, I just don’t know if it will be pants or capri weather for this Florida girl. I’ll be wearing a Team 413 shirt and the bottoms will be Skirt Sports (pants or capris). I also need to start planning out my packing list for the trip. I’m going to be up in New York for 11 days total, so likely it will be jeans most of the time, along with various tops and pullovers. I know it’s going to be cooler weather up there irregardless.
My Amazon Fire tablet came this week as well which was great. I had ordered it at the end of September, but because of the popularity of the price they were offering, it quickly went into a hold state while more were made. It came a week before they predicted it would arrive, so that was great. I haven’t owned a tablet before, and thought having one to bring on my NY trip would be a good idea. This way, I can read, watch movies and do my blogging on it without having to bring my laptop with me on the trip. It’s a 7in tablet, and so far I’m liking it. It’s nothing fancy, but it will definitely do the job and allow me to watch movies and listen to music on the plane. I’ve already downloaded Back to the Future, my favorite movie.
I’m also seeing all the awesome merchandise and gear for the marathon and I want it all. Ha. Obviously, that’s not going to happen, but a lot of it is great. I especially love the special edition Brooks Adrenaline’s for the NYC Marathon. This is the year of New York, so that’s what it’s all about for me. Guess I’ll see what I come out of the expo with! Also, I hear that some of the marathon gear goes on sale or there are deals after marathon weekend online.
Anyone else tapering for the NYC Marathon?
Or, another big marathon coming up? How is your taper going?
Ah, the taper. I found that I had a ton of time on my hands and my hands ended up baking lots of stuff that they then shoved in my mouth.
Hope you can kick that infection!
Thanks, I hope this crud takes a hike soon!
Baking is good…well, mostly anyway. Ha. I have to watch my cookie intake, they seem to be my weakness lately. LOL
