You’ve probably seen the hashtags on instagram, facebook and twitter, #ihavearunnersbody. Created by Dorothy Beal from mile-posts.com, it’s a movement to show the world that a runner is someone that runs, and we come in all shapes and sizes. There is no one-size-fits-all mold for a runner. If you run, you are a real runner, period.
I LOVE, LOVE this so much. From the moment I joined my Galloway training group back in 2012, I quickly learned how amazing we ALL are no matter what size you are or your speed. Of course, I always believed that anyone who works out is awesome, but runners truly are a unique breed. But honestly, a good majority of people believe that a REAL runner has a certain look to them as well as being able to run at a certain pace. I recall believing that I could never be a runner because I didn’t look like one, not to mention the whole frame of mind about wondering why the heck anyone would run for fun. LOL!
Honestly though, what does a real runner look like? The answer is, he or she doesn’t have a physical look that can be described as uniform. Just like Dorothy stated in her blog post, if you run you are a runner. By judging someone from their physical appearance, you are missing out on so much of what that person can do. I run with ladies of all shapes, sizes and pace, what we have in common is that we love this crazy sport. And that we are dedicated to getting the training miles in each week for our next race(s). Seeing what each and every one of us is capable of on the road is such a great thing, as well as empowering. Every single person that I have run with is an inspiration to me.
