With Thanksgiving coming up this week, it’s the perfect time to enjoy some holiday 5ks (or longer distances). Florida is just so humid and hot most of the year, and this really is a great time of the year to gather your family and friends for a run/walk to celebrate the fun.
Turkey Trots are a family tradition for many, and love getting out and enjoying a run before eating all the yummy food! I recommend the Seniors First Turkey Trot 5k put on by Track Shack on November 23rd. The Orlando Thanksgiving tradition is going on it’s 29th year! The event benefits Seniors First, Meals on Wheels benefiting local seniors and takes place at Lake Eola and over 5,000 folks participate each year. On top of the 5k fun run, there’s a costume contest, best turkey call contest, and a free Tot Trot! Head over to TrackShack.com to register!
Other Thanksgiving running events in the area include: Sanford Turkey Day 5k, which takes place on Thanksgiving morning and is in it’s 9th year. The event benefits Christian Sharing Center and is runner and walker friendly, and also has a best Thanksgiving costume contest. There’s also the Avalon Park Foundation Turkey Trot benefiting the Woodbury Food Pantry.
Be sure to get in on the fun and sign up soon, because most of the above listed races close online registration on Wednesday, November 21st! Happy Trotting!
