Book Review: Magical Miles: The Runner’s Guide to Walt Disney World

Calling all Disney runners! This is THE book for you. If you are a Disney lover and love to run, owning this book is definitely a must. It covers just about everything you need to know to have a success Disney runcation! There is NO other book out there that covers running at Disney, this is THE one and only.

Magical Miles: The Runner’s Guide to Walt Disney World covers you from must-know information on runDisney events to race preparation to where to stay and much more. It’s especially useful for first-time runDisney runners as it answers just about any and every question you may have from the moment you hit “register” on your first runDisney race.


The book is broken up into eighteen chapters. Chapter one covers how the book will help you once you decide to run in Disney. Chapter two covers each runDisney event (from WDW Marathon weekend to Wine & Dine as well as achieving your Coast to Coast medals). Once you choose a race, chapter three covers you on the whole registration process whether you decide to simply register or run with a charity team. Then the excitement begins, it’s time to get on the road and train! Chapter four covers training, nutrition, gear and much more.

If you are an out-of-town runner, or a local Floridian who would like to stay on Disney property, the authors have you covered on that in chapter five with where to stay. Also, this chapter covers running trails located on Disney property. Chapter six is all about food, eating at Disney. It’s all broken down by theme park as well as recommendations for pre-race and race morning meal suggestions. Transportation is the topic of chapter seven from just getting to the theme parks to getting to and from the expo and race each event day.

One of my favorite chapters follows with tips and advice about what to pack not only for your race, but for a Disney vacation in the Sunshine State. This is a must-read especially for first-time Disney vacationers and runners! It will put your mind a bit more at ease during the stress that can mount up as you pack your luggage.

The next three chapters cover the Expo (which is NOT to be missed at runDisney events), pre-race activities and post-race activities. There is so much going on at the expo as well as during pre-race and post-race that you will want to be in the know about all the fun that sandwiches in your race day experience!

From there, you have chapters on each specific race (including kids races), the runDisney challenges and information for spectators. Things get wrapped up with vacation information to have some fun during your vacation/racation, which really is the magical cherry on top when you go to Walt Disney World!

As a long-time local to Orlando and the Disney area, I still learned SO much from this book. Authors Krista Albrecht and Megan Biller did an amazing job compiling everything and making this book a great one. This is the 2014 edition of the book, and with the ever-changing world of runDisney events, surely one to be updated annually. It’s a guide that you’ll want to have by your side as you plan your next vacation around your runDisney race or races! Hundreds of thousands of runners invade Walt Disney World each year for Marathon weekend, Princess weekend, Wine & Dine and more that you want to not only enjoy your race, but also as much of the Disney fun as possible! This guide will help you achieve that goal and make your next runDisney vacation the best one yet!
