With a new month upon us, I figured it was time for another Fall Races training update. It’s interesting to me that this time last year, I was training for the TCS NYC Marathon. This year, it’s all half marathons. It’s kind of nice to not have to train for 26.2 miles, but it’s also bittersweet, as I think my marathon days are done.
First Fall race up is the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler on October 21st. I feel pretty good about where my training has been for this race. My long runs on Saturday have gone well for the most part, and I actually ran a 10 mile run on July 21st. I did feel tired the last couple of miles, but it was my first double-digit run since I ran the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon back in April. Since the PNC Atlanta 10 Miler has Cardiac Hill, I do want to get in more hill training this month.
Tentatively on the schedule is Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon in November. I am hoping to pace the race, so that would work out great with it being on 11/4, two weeks after Atlanta. Should know soon if that’s confirmed or not. In December, I have OUC Orlando Half Marathon on 12/1 and Mt. Dora Half Marathon on 12/16. I feel good about the timing in between my current race schedule, so I am able to have good recovery time.
The OUC Orlando Half Marathon is my goal race for the year. It’s the one I’d really like to PR. My current half marathon PR time is 2:53:09. I haven’t done a half in under 2:55 in awhile, so I’d love to get under 2:53 if not hit 2:50 finish time. I’m fortunate that I’m running the race with some of my friends, so we will all be encouraging one another all 13.1 miles. And, being out there with them will make it all the better.
August should be a good month of training. I’m hoping to head out to Apopka, a better area for hill training here in Central Florida. Otherwise, track workouts for getting my pace up a bit are in order.
How is your training going?
