This morning was full of firsts. My first run in the rain (it was a light, windy one) and my first solo run without music. I left my trusty iPod behind and just ran to the beep of my Gymboss.
At first, I hated it. I hated the rain smacking me in the face because of the rough wind. I hated that I left the dry comfort of my house for this rainy crud. I mean, what, was I thinking? My desire to run really is changing my life. Last week, I got up at 4am to meet my group at the track, and now running in the windy rain? Who was I?
I ended up doing just over 2 1/2 miles at an easy pace. I had hoped to do a bit of speedwork and a 3-miler, but the weather changed plans for me. I did have one instance where I felt as if I had to catch my breath (I think the wind knocked at me or something), so I took an extra 30 seconds of a walk break. It helped thankfully. I ended my run feeling pretty good. I can’t say that I’m looking forward to, or will really want to run in the rain again, but at least now I know I can do it. Getting over the first-timer hurdle helps at least a little. The initial fears or hesitations I had have dwindled at least somewhat now. 🙂
Do you recall your first run in the rain? I’d love to hear it.
I love running in the rain but I do recommend wearing a cap or visor so the rain doesn’t run down your face.
Definitely a must-have, a hat when it’s raining. Well, I guess unless someone likes their face all wet. 🙂
