The New York City Marathon. It is a must-do marathon for most runners. Who doesn’t want to run through the infamous five boroughs of New York? For me, it’s my dream marathon. The marathon I simply MUST do. Maybe it’s because I was born in the Big Apple state, or maybe it’s simply because it’s the New York City Marathon. Either way, it’s a marathon like no other. I have run three marathons at this point, and I hope NYC is number four later this year.
Last year, over 50,000 runners from all over the world ran the NYC Marathon. The race has been around since 1970 when it was founded by Fred Lebow with just 55 runners participating and has grown to become the most popular marathon in the world. The marathon is run on the first Sunday in November and starts in Staten Island and finishes inside of Central Park.
Have you registered for the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon lottery? Now is the time to put your name in the virtual hat for non-complementary entry into this year’s race. You must enter the lottery by the March 18th deadline to be eligible. The New York Road Runners will announce the lottery winners (again, you still have to pay a registration fee if you are chosen) at the end of March. Everyone will be notified by email at that time if you are chosen to be a part of the 2014 race. If you don’t get into the marathon via the lottery, there are still options to run through many charities.
The New York Road Runners also has a sweepstakes taking place for six weeks from February 3rd through March 10th. There will be ten winners chosen each week, five of which will be local runners from the five boroughs and the other five from outside of the state from currently registered lottery applicants. So, the sooner you register, the more chances you have of getting accepted to run this year’s TCS NYC Marathon!
Be sure not to miss the NYRR and FitFluential twitter chat that will be taking place on Thursday, February 6th at 9pm Eastern. It is your opportunity to take part in a Q&A session with Coach John Honerkamp who has fifteen years of experience training runners of all abilities and ages. Use hashtag, #TCSNYCMarathonApply to ask any questions and/or to join in on the conversation.
