Today marks the 100 day mark until I will be in New York City running my dream race. I admit, these key “days until” updates get my stomach tied up in knots. Or, is it doing flips? It’s definitely nerve-wracking. Both in an exciting way, and a bundle of “what am I getting myself into” way. I am definitely more excited than anything. I’m doing all of my training like I should, so I know I will be ready!
The biggest part of my training this season is that I’ve been embracing hills. I won’t admit to being in love with them (because that’s just silly), but I no longer dislike them like I used to. Now, I see them as challenges that I need to overcome. They are more of a mental push, continuing to ensure myself that I CAN do it. I’ve done such amazing things in the last three years, and I know I am stronger than I ever thought I was.
I look back at the person I was when I started training for my first marathon, and I only see a better person. Being a marathoner makes you so incredibly strong, both physically and mentally. We learn how to cope with pushing through rough patches, including pain and soreness and get it done. Marathoners get it done, period. It’s not always easy (some days are really tough), but once we finish our runs, we feel like we can do just about anything.
God has blessed me with being able to do this thing called running that I never thought I’d love. I will never stop believing that being able to lace up and hit the road is a blessing. There are people who want to do what we do, running mile after mile, but they are not able to, for whatever reason. I thank God that He has made it all possible for me. NYC is a dream and a blessing for me. It won’t be an experience I take for granted.
In the meanwhile, thank you for all of the support I’m getting! You all are awesome. If you are able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the cause I’m running the NYC Marathon for. I’m running it for the 26.2 with Donna, to finish breast cancer. If you donate at least $10 between now and the end of the month, you will be entered to win one of two $25 gift certificates for Skirt Sports! I believe that it’s because of the 26.2 with Donna, and your donations that a cure for breast cancer will be found soon. Thanks! 🙂
